Over the years Tathva has strived to bring some of the most leading men and women of science,with lectures inculcating the spirit of engineering among its attendees and help bridge the industry-academia gap.This year we present a plethora of lecture series at Tathva 09 providing you with a novel change from the regular classroom routines.With eminent personalities like Richard Stallman and P.M.Ajayan having graced the Tathva lecture halls with their out of the world lectures, Tathva'09 promises an even better experience. Whether the gargantuan task of travelling through time or the chemical history of a candle, we 've got a myriads of talks to satisfy the lay-man as well as the scientist. Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam
The Former President of India, Dr.A P J Abdul Kalam,popularly known as the "Missile Man of India" for his work on development of ballistic missile and space rocket technology, is highly respected as a scientist and as an engineer. Before his term as India's president, he worked as aeronautical engineer with DRDO and ISRO. Kalam's belief in the power of science to resolve society's problems and his views of these problem are highly popular among the country's youth.The Government of India has honoured him with the nation's highest civilian honours: the Padma Bhushan in 1981; Padma Vibhushan in 1990; and the Bharat Ratna in 1997.Kalam has been chosen to receive prestigious 2008 Hoover Medal for his outstanding public service.

Dr. Sir Harold Kroto
   One of the co-recipients of the 1996 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his co-discovery of buckminsterfullerene, a form of pure carbon better known as "buckyballs." In 2001, Kroto won the Royal Society's prestigious Michael Faraday Award. Kroto gives a highly popular series of public lectures, aiming to create a broadcast platform for the science, engineering and technology (SET) communities.

Mr. Suhas Gopinath
Suhas Gopinath, popularly known as "The World's Youngest CEO". He founded the company"Globals Inc." when he was just 14. As of 2007, Globals Inc claims to have served more than 200 clients worldwide through offices in some 11 countries.In 2005, Mr Gopinath was the youngest among the 175 recipients of the state's Rajyotsava Award.Mr Gopinath is also a brand ambassador for PETA.

In 2007, The European Parliament and International Association for Human Values conferred a “Young Achiever Award” on Mr. Gopinath at the European Parliament, Brussels. Mr. Gopinath was announced as a “Young Global Leader” for 2008-2009 by the World Economic Forum, Davos.  He holds a Diploma on Global Leadership and Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School at the Harvard University. He is reported to be the youngest YGL in the World Economic Forum's history. This year's Young Global Leaders includes Suhas Gopinath along with Hollywood Actor Leonardo DiCaprio, Musician A. R. Dr. Bernd Fitzner

Dr. Bernd Fitzner is the Director of the Geologisches Institut der RWTH Aachen. The working group "Natural stones and weathering" at the Geological Institute of the Aachen University of Technology has long-term experience in material- and damage investigation of natural stones. Within national and international research projects as well as within expert activities at numerous important cultural monuments research work for preserving these monuments is executed.Some of his publications include Assessment of Weathering Damage on Stone Monuments, Documentation and Evaluation of Stone Damage on Monuments, to mention a few.He has also gained knowledge and experience in the field of weather simulation.

Prof. Debashis Chatterjee
"The original voice of Life is Silence all other noises of the world are mere echoes"

Professor Debashis Chatterjee has taught for more than a decade in IIM, Lucknow and IIM, Calcutta. He pioneered and founded the global Center for Leadership and Human Values at the Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow (IIM). Prof. Chatterjee's professional career has been a rich blend of international professional and academic experience in India, USA, Canada, Europe, Australia, South East Asia and South Africa. Dr. Chatterjee was a Fulbright Fellow at the Harvard University and MIT. He was recently a Visiting Fulbright Professor at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government. He also taught in the MBA programmes at the University of St. Thomas, Minnesota and at the Harvard Graduate School of Business. Debashis Chatterjee was founder Dean of the Leadership Center, S.P. Jain center of Management in Singapore. He is currently the Director of the Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode

Dr. Prabhakaran Palleri

Dr. Prabhakaran Palleri completed his bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from NIT Calicut and obtained Master's Degree in Business Administration from the University of Madras in 1978.He is also a graduate from the National Defence University, Washington, with master's degree in National Security Strategy and obtained doctorate from the University of Madras for thesis, 'Changing concept of National Security and a maritime model for India'.

Prof. K.V. Jayakumar
 Prof. K.V. Jayakumar, who has taken over as the Executive Director of CWRDM was working as Professor & Head, Department of Civil Engineering at the National Institute of Technology, Warangal.He is a widely traveled academician, both within and outside the country.He was the recipient of the International Visiting Fellowship of the Environment and Water Research Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineering during the year 2003.He is also on the Editorial Board of Sri Lankan Society of Agricultural Engineering.He was awarded the UNESCO fellowship to participate in the IV International Course on Urban Drainage in Developing Countries (UDDC) at the Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok during the year 1992.

Dr. B N Suresh

 B. N. Suresh  is a well known aerospace scientist of India. He is former Director of Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), Thiruvananthapuram during the period 2003-2007. He is known for his contribution to Space Capsule Recovery Experiments (SRE). Dr. Suresh is currently serving as the Director of Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Thiruvananthapuram. He is a recipient of Padma Shri award by Government of India (2002)

Mr. Pradeep Kumar

 PradeepKumar P. is a scientist in the Atmosphere Technology Division, Space Physics Laboratory, VSSC. Mr. Pradeepkumar and his wife were core members of a 5 member team which developed Chandra’s Altitudinal Composition Explorer (ChACE) payload, which has detected water on Moon for the first time, ending a 40-50 year old human quest for finding water on Moon. His research intrests are Portable, PC based and Optical Instrumentation and Data Acquisition & Control Systems. Mr. PradeepKumar holds a patent on Solar Radiometer, a scientific instrument which automatically tracks the sun and measures multi spectral intensity of solar radiation for the study of atmospheric aerosols.His talk will be centered around the Chandraayan mission which confirmed the existence of water molecules on the surface of the Moon.

Dr. K M Abraham
 Dr. Kandathil Mathew Abraham, IAS, is an M. Tech. in Industrial Management from IIT, Kanpur. A Chartered Financial Analyst from CFA Institute, USA, he is a Licensed Financial Analyst (LIFA) professional from USA. Dr. Abraham holds Ph.D. from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Dr. Abraham is also a visiting Professor of Finance in IIT, Kanpur and Asian School of Business, Thiruvananthapuram.

Dr. Abraham has held various positions in the Government of Kerala. He has been Secretary in the Department of Finance, Government of Kerala for six years. Dr. Abraham was also the founding fund manager of the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund.

Dr. Prahlad Vadakkepat
"It is my passion to work with robots. I dream of a world where humans and robots live in harmony." - Dr. Prahlad Vadakkepat.

Dr. Prahlad Vadakkepat is an Associate Professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the National University of Singapore (NUS). Dr. Prahlad's major research areas are Humanoid Robotics, Co-operative Robotics and Biomorphs. Dr. Prahlad obtained his M.Tech and Ph.D from IIT Madras after completing his B.Tech from Calicut University. Dr. Prahlad has been bestowed with lots of awards and honors in the field of Humanoid Robotics. His team won first prizes in coveted Robotics competitions like the FIRA RoboWorld Cup and the Singapore Robotics Games. He was recently felicitated by Woodlands CC, Singapore.

Dr. Subhasis Chaudhari
Dr.Subhasis Chaudhari is the Dean (International Relations) & Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Bombay. He is a receipient of Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award of CSIR  in Engineering Sciences(2004) and  J.C. Bose National Fellowship (2008). He is currently researching in Motion analysis and tracking, Gesture analysis,Super-resolution imaging and Content-based image retrieval.

Dr. Archana Sharma

Dr. Archana Sharma is the only Indian physicist on the permanent staff of CERN, Geneva. She has been working on detector development for instrumentation of experiments at the Large Hadron Collider. She worked on concept, design and construction of mall prototypes, which were tested in the laboratory both by simulations and experiment.

She has given over 30 courses on gaseous detectors in the most prestigious International workshops and seminars including the NATO School in St. Croix in 2001, Snowmass Meeting in Denver Colorado in 2002,International Committee on Future Accelerators Meetings,etc. She is well known for her efforts to involve students, especially from non-European nations in CERN scientific activities.

Dr. Shashi Tharoor
  Shashi Tharoor is the Indian Minister of State for External Affairs . He served as the UN Under-Secretary General for Communications and Public Information.In 2006, he was the official candidate of India for the office of United Nations Secretary-General, He is also a prolific author, columnist, journalist, human-rights advocate, humanitarian and adviser or fellow of various institutions, including the International Committee of the Red Cross, the Aspen Institute, and the USC Center on Public Diplomacy.. His Ph.D. was awarded when he was 22, a Fletcher record.
   
 
Ms. Tessy Thomas
Popularly known as "Missile Woman", she is the first woman scientist to head a missile project (Agni-II-A2) in India. Dr Tessy Thomas, who is an expert on all solid propellants systems, started her career in the DRDO under Dr APJ Abdul Kalam's leadership and guidance.
